Fun with Hair and Make up 8/8/12

Well I got a whim to play around in front of the mirror with some make up. Nothing overly crazy this time but it did feel good to do. :) I have included my favorites from the impromptu shoot in both color and black & white.
I am starting to appreciate the black and white photos more but figured the colors were nice too. At first I used the regular flash and it gave me a pretty natural light. Later I used a piece of cream colored cloth to tone down the flash.

Enjoy!! XOXOXO

Found my tripod

Woohoo! I had forgotten where I had stashed my tripod after the move. Silly me for forgetting such an important thing.
Anywho, I had noticed that I did not have any recent photos of myself so here you go. :)

Enjoy! XOXOXO

On my way - One step at a time

Okay, I have sucessfully scheduled an appointment with a counselor at the community college so that I can go in and figure out what all I have left to do to receive an associate's degree.

One step at a time. :)
Just like sewing! You go one step at a time and then you end up with something nice. :)

Enjoy! XOXOXO

Current Life Update

Well I am pretty much settled in Oklahoma.
I am staying with family until I can get back on my feet.

This week's goal is to find out all I can about enrolling back into school. I did not complete my associates degree while in Texas so that is my first major goal. I know that many college graduates are having a tough time finding jobs right now so I am keeping the job market in mind when I think about going on to a four year college or simply learning a trade. I am grateful that I would be able to go to college if I chose to but I also understand that route may or may not be the best choice for my future.

Thanks to the support of my family I was able to get a new car that I can depend on and not worry about for the next few years. My last vehicle was a great one and it took care of me during it's last run and all of the previous owners in my family that had it before me.

I have joined the local Toastmaster's group, mainly to help me overcome my own insecurities and be more confident in my own skin.
The first speech I am to make (in my own time thankfully) is what they call an Ice Breaker speech.
Pretty much I will be talking about myself.
Sounds pretty easy, right?
No such luck for me at the moment. Whenever I start to think about what I would say about myself, I pretty much come up a bit blank. I don't honestly know myself well enough to tell other people about myself.
That is another one of my major goals, learn to be myself and not care so much about what other people might think.
My first step in this direction, I have decided, will be with the way I dress. I have discovered that I love 50's style dresses and just dressing nicer in general. Yes, I will always want to wear jeans and a t-shirt but I also want to only wear those when it is a bit more appropriate, for instance to a foot ball game or when doing weekend cleaning. The rest of the time I want to look nice and respectable.

Lol, if my parents read this I can imagine them shaking their heads and thinking, "I thought she would never get it!"

I have a friend in Texas who is dealing with a daughter that is in need of a good clean start over. I hope and pray that she will be able to start over as I have and I am very grateful that I have been giving the chance at a fresh start over.

I hope to post more pictures soon but until then I hope I can appease you with something a bit older.

Enjoy! XOXOXO

May Photo A Day Update

I have fallen behind on my photo a day duties but I will pick it back up soon.
I will still post a photo for the days that I have missed, even though it won't quite be same but I feel that I must complete it entirely.
Until next time.

May Photo A Day 5/8 - Smell I Adore

The great and wonderful outdoors.
I love the smell of clean air after it rains, grass, flowers, trees.
Nature is my favorite smell in the whole world.

During my brief stay in Ruidoso, New Mexico there is a "small" mountain a short drive from the house that I would go to and walk or climb whenever I just wanted to think and be alone. It was the most relaxing place and I could never be stressed out or depressed when I was there.
Enjoy. XOXOXO

May Photo A Day 5/7 - Something that Inspires

Well for a long time nothing or anyone really inspired me to do anything, until I met Jeanne Takano.

Jeanne is this wonderful woman who I met at a late night sit-n-sew in Dallas. She was a bit shy at first and she had suffered some brain damage that caused her hearing to become super sensitive. Normal noises that you or I would think nothing of could put her on the floor in pain, so she had these special noise cancelling headphones that she wore at nearly all times.

Jeanne had been a stay at home mom with her two children but when her young son became chronically ill, she was so inspired by the doctors who helped her child that she decided that she wanted to do the same for other children. She went to school while her children were still young and got her M.D. specializing in critical care pediatrics. She worked as a doctor until her accident and the resulting brain damage.

Did that slow her down? Of Course Not!

She learned to sew and began making quilts for women's shelters and children's hospitals. She made special colorful pillows for the children in foster care so that they would have something that they could call their own. She dedicated her life to helping people in any way she could. Since she could no longer be a doctor, she made quilts, pillows and other things to give away to hospitals and charities.

The second time I met Jeanne, we were at a quilting retreat together and she was working on a beautiful quilt top that her grandmother had drawn up many years before. All Jeanne had was a drawing. That's it.
Now for people who do not sew and don't understand why that would be so interesting, let me explain.
Depending on the pattern, your quilt could be very simple or it could be very challenging. Luckily for you, you have a pattern that should tell you exactly what size to cut your fabric and how to sew it together.
Well Jeanne was making a quilt from a drawing. No hints, no clues, no instructions. She had to figure out the exact measurements of pieces of fabric that she was going to cut. Then she had to figure out how to sew them together so that all the sides and points met in the appropriate places and that there were no lumps or puffy seams.

You may not understand, but just believe me when I say that it is harder than it may sound.

Here is Jeanne Takano's Quilt top while she was working on it at that quilt retreat.
I miss you Jeanne and I will always remember you.

Jeanne Takano, MD 1956 - 2012
She is my inspiration to never give up and always pursue your dreams.

May Photo A Day 5/6 - Me

This is old, but you get the basic idea.
I love the violin and all the other string instruments. I haven't played in a while but that dream will never die for me. :)
Enjoy. XOXOXO

May Photo A Day 5/5 - Bird

Why did the Pheasant cross the road?
I don't know, that is why I asked!
Sorry this one was late.

May Photo A Day 5/3 - Something I Wore Today

Well, since I have a job and all, I have to dress a certain way.
On a trip to Oklahoma visiting my family, I was able to purchase some clothes for work including a white blouse that has an overlay of white lace.
I adore lace, purely because of it's delicacy.
I do not wear lace lightly and it has to be just right, not too much, before I will wear it.
So here is a close up of my shoulder. :)
Enjoy. XOXOXO

May Photo A Day 5/1 - Peace

Thanks to Facebook and my friend Youn Hea Pak, I came across a "May Photo A Day" challenge. I had seen these things in the past and had wanted to try my hand at it.
So, the subject for May 1st is "Peace".

Well, when I think of "Peace" usually the first thing that comes to my mind is being outside in "peaceful" surroundings.

I know that other people will think of World Peace and things like that but, in my opinion, that is a pipe dream. We will always have people that hate other people for one reason or another, that will never go away. We can Hope for Peace, but that is about as far as I will go on that topic.

So. Peace. Peaceful. Outside, trees, wind, grass, water, rain, etc. This is where my mind will go.

Right before we were going to do the "Post-wedding Engagement Photos" of Chris & Marie Cuevas, we strolled through the park that is alone White Rock Lake and I came across this "Peaceful" sight.

Enjoy. XOXOXO

Mozart's Older Sister

I just finished watching a movie based on the early life of Wolfgang Mozart's older sister.
Absolutely beautiful music and because of the time period, no one would recognize her skill or talent. The one person who truly believed her to be a master ended up breaking her heart. Thus swearing her off composing music for the rest of her long life, she lived to be 78 and all of this happened in her late teens and early twenties.
I wish I had been exposed to more classical music as a kid, I truly love the string instruments. I was able to acquire a violin about a year ago and took a few lessons before work and life decided I didn't have the time, money or energy to become proficient at playing. But the dream still lives on in my heart! I will learn to play beautiful music! I even want to learn French or Italian so that I can sing operas to myself when no one is watching (or listening!).

Well I better try to go to bed, I am fully awake with the desire to play my violin, but alas it is late and my neighbors would probably not appreciate my playing at this time.

Good night.

Post Wedding Engagement - Chris & Marie Cuevas

Chris & Marie Cuevas, so cute and wonderful to photograph!
I had a lot of fun getting them to pretend they were impartial to each other (think of high fashion models and you will understand what I was trying to do). I also love to take pictures when my subjects don't think I'm watching, the true emotions come through in those rare glimpses. I have a hand full of those that I will post later. :)
Enjoy! XOXOXO

Clint Grammer

So I have this old high school buddy that I get to see every now and then.
Super fun to play pool with or just cruising around being silly.
I have probably a few hundred pictures from the one Saturday that we decided to go out and take his pictures, here is two from our trip to old Downtown Garland.
More to come!
Enjoy! XOXOXO

Post Wedding Engagement - Chris & Marie Cuevas

So these photos where taken after the wedding at a park, since we didn't get to take any "couple" pictures before the wedding. I had so much fun with these two, a total blast!
There is a "toy camera" setting on my camera that darkens the pictures as well as puts a dark shadow around the edges, framing the shots. I loved this setting because to me, it made the pictures look older and vintage. I have two sets of the wedding pictures, the regular color camera setting and the toy camera setting, so you will see some from both sets.
Enjoy! XOXOXO

Wedding - Marie Cuevas

I know that some people would think that the shadows are not very nice but I liked the way they covered her face almost like a small veil.
Again, I take weird pictures because they appeal to me.
I took over 600 pictures for this wedding, so if the bride did not like this picture she would have 599 others to choose from. :)
Luckily the bride seems to like them (or at least she hasn't told me which ones she did not like).
Enjoy! XOXOXO

Wedding - Marie Cuevas

I had the absolute pleasure of photography a mutual friend's wedding last year. Chris and Marie were high school sweethearts and a beautiful couple. I will be gradually posting some of the over 300 pictures from their wedding and "engagement". Below is one of my personal favorites from when it was just Marie before the wedding.
Enjoy! XOXOXO
